With a potential return for Gareth Bale featuring heavily on Tottenham Hotspur’s rumour mill this summer and with plenty in the fanbase wanted the Welsh international to return home to White Hart Lane, in truth, it doesn’t look like it will happen given his reported wage at Real Madrid and the fact that his agent has repeatedly rubbished suggestions of a return to Spurs and England full stop.

There was quite the scramble earlier in the window when the reports of our apparent interest in him first surfaced and he was often suggested to be a potential makeweight in the Christian Eriksen saga, but nothing has come of it.

Agent Jonathan Barnett has long held the view that the speculation of a return for the 30-year-old was “rubbish” and his story certainly hasn’t changed across the weeks, despite the regularity to which the rumours keep returning.

Rather predictably we saw another round of them on Tuesday, in no small way helped by the clubs’ official Twitter feed wishing our former star a happy birthday and those that wanted to see him return took their opportunity again to let it be known.
