Tottenham have been linked with Ryan Sessegnon all season, but their hopes of signing the Fulham midfielder have taken a big hit after Manchester United made an approach. According to Sky Sports, United have contacted Fulham over Sessegnon’s availability, and the 18-year-old could be on the move this summer as a result.
The England u21 international has made 120 appearances in all competitions for Fulham since rising through the youth ranks to the first-team in 2016, scoring and creating 43 goals. Sessegnon was a standout performer as the Cottagers won promotion to the Premier League in 2018, but his maiden top-flight campaign didn’t go to plan and Fulham have been relegated back to the Championship.
Sessegnon has made 35 Premier League appearances and contributed eight goals. He’s operated at left-back, right-back, wing-back, left-wing, right-wing and up front, but his best role is as a left-sided wide-man. He’s dynamic and poses more of a threat in the final third. It’s not hard to see why United are keen, but he won’t come cheap at £40m.
Sessegnon has racked up 2298 minutes of playing time, made 33 chances, 32 successful dribbles (47%), averaged 20 passes-per-game with 73% accuracy, won 18 aerial duels (31%), blocked 36 passes/crosses/shots, made 38 clearances, whipped in 66 crosses with 20% accuracy and averaged a tackle (22) or interception (19) every 56 minutes.
He’ll have United’s Players’ Player of the Year Luke Shaw for competition if he joined the Red Devils, but Sessegnon could have a bright future nevertheless.
