Bizarre Kane Rumours Surface As Former Player Feels Spurs Will Get A Defensive Boost Soon

|

Former Tottenham Hotspur and England midfielder Jermaine Jenas feels that following the arrival of new manager Jose Mourinho, two of our perceived contract rebels will now commit their futures at White Hart Lane – namely, defensive duo Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.

However, he doesn’t feel that a change in gaffer will have any effect on the future of midfielder Christian Eriksen.

With plenty of speculation about all three players, Vertonghen’s future came more into doubt at the beginning of the season when he didn’t find himself in the squad on occasions and all the inevitable rumour mill speculation that generated about his fitness and so on.

Quoted by The Express recently, Jenas was quietly confident that our centre-halves would pen news deals at some point in the next six months, leaving only Eriksen as somebody we’d lose for nothing when his existing deal expires over the summer.

“One of the biggest question is: can Harry Kane play for Jose? I look at his past strikers. The likes of Didier Drogba, Diego Milito, Romelu Lukaku. He has always had creators around them. There are not many I fear in that Spurs forward line. But Harry will have to find something extra. He has been below par for Spurs since the start of the season. He might have to offer more than scoring a goal. More will be expected. Dele Alli will have to raise his game. He will love Son to bits. He gets up and down the pitch and scores. Eric Dier will get back in favour all of a sudden. He can be rejuvenated. I think he will sort out the Vertonghen and Alderweireld situation. He loves experience. It makes sense not to spend there and look after them instead. I bet they’ll sign new deals in the next six months. I think he might let Eriksen walk out of the door, thinking he doesn’t desperately need him.”

The Harry question is also a good one now and we’re already seeing bizarre swap reports from Spain involving Karim Benzema.

It’s going to be an interesting few weeks now, but I think plenty would take even 12 months extensions for Toby and Jan as a small boost here.
