Following the appointment of Jose Mourinho as Mauricio Pochettino’s replacement at Tottenham Hotspur, it was almost inevitable that we’d see a fair few links to Mourinho’s former players – whether that be Gareth Bale at Real Madrid (not like links to him were new) or the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Fans can make their own minds up about the veracity of such links, but I guess it was never going to be long before Marouane Fellaini featured on the rumour mill as January nears.
The Belgian was a regular in one shape or form under Mourinho at Old Trafford and he departed for Chinese side Shandong Luneng in February. Whatever you think of his style of play, as a target man and bully he was certainly effective but surely this isn’t a route Spurs should be going down.
Yes, an alternative from the bench to Harry Kane (so Troy Parrott isn’t buried with pressure) is needed, but I imagine the following responses would be echoed by the vast majority of fans when it came to the 32-year-old.
