Kieran Trippier now has five assists in the Premier League this season after the victory against Watford on Monday night.

The right-back has nine in all competitions this season, and his contributions in the final third of the pitch have clearly been very important for the team.

On Twitter, it was pointed out that the 27-year-old has more assists than some highly regarded playmakers:

Fans had a mixed reaction to the stat:

Verdict:

Some fans have been pushing for Mauricio Pochettino to look for an upgrade on Kieran in the summer, with Serge Aurier having also not made the impact people had expected on the right-hand side.

However, going on Poch’s recent remarks about the player this week, that does seem to be unlikely. He told the Evening Standard:

“For me, Kieran is one of the best English players in the Premier League and he deserves a lot of credit. Assists, playing passes, crosses he is one of the best.”

Our no.2 has certainly made a very good impression on the manager since he took over first-team duties from Kyle Walker at the start of the season. I would expect him to be a regular next campaign as well.

  • It’s rare that he has a bad or indifferent match for Spurs. Kieran Trippier is such an effective player, so quick and alert. And the other night when Spurs played Watford at Wembley Stadium in the Premier League and won 2-0 thanks to goals from Dele and Harry Kane, Kieran was pivotal in that victory.

  • Trippier was a downgrade on Walker who has more pl assists this season and is in the pl team of the year for the 3rd season running. Selling top grade players and replacing them with inferior ones is not a recipe for success.

  • Who the hell is Trippier? Without Kane, Dele and Song nobody would speak about him! Did someone looked to his defensive qualities and the goals the Spurs received on his site?

  • Walker has played more games than Tripps… and Davies has more assists than Walker… and Walker’s in a team that scores goals for fun.

I do think Walker is better than Tripps, but not because of his assists.

  • Got there before me freundorfoe, totally agree, on Monday night Gary Neville said that Kieran Trippier was the best crosser of the ball from that position, maybe he was talking rubbish maybe not, I believe that he is a good crosser and has been vital to Spurs this season.
