New deal signed, no replacement pending – Bayern wasting time eyeing Tottenham winger

According to Calciomercato, Heung-min Son is a transfer target for Bayern Munich, perhaps due to the Tottenham forward’s links with the German Bundesliga, the need to replace ageing duo Arjen Robben & Franck Ribery and due to the club’s toils in front of goal. However, there’s very little chance they’d be successful in their pursuit, and here’s why….

Son only signed a new deal with Tottenham in June, committing his future to the Lilywhites until 2023. It’s clear he has no plans to move elsewhere, nor would Spurs sell a player so soon after extending their contract. And with no obvious replacement pending, it makes little sense parting company with a talented servant.

Initially signed by Tottenham from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, the South Korean international has gone on to make 151 appearances in all competitions, scoring 49 goals. He’s been a key player under Mauricio Pochettino and has turned in the best league form of his career the last two seasons – 2016/17: 34 games, 14 games, 6 assists; 2017/18: 37 games, 12 goals, 6 assists.

Bayern may indeed be in the market for a versatile winger, but Daniel Levy has no reason to let Son go – nor would Pochettino back the decision. Nothing to see here….
