And The Football Gods Smiled

Life’s a funny thing, almost as funny as football. So the Champions League draw is over and the dream of every Spurs supporter has been delivered. Not so long ago we all hoped and prayed that at some point in the near or distant future Luka and Gareth would return to the Lane and once again treat us to a feast of footballing magic. What goes around, comes around. Our dream has been realised.

It’s not quite the way we all thought it might happen but things don’t always turn out the way we expect, do they, especially when it comes to the World Game. It’s not quite the Lane either but it’s as near as we can get at the moment. One thing hasn’t changed; Luka and Gareth have continued making magic!

So, what now? The idea of Champions League football is to pit the best clubs in Europe against each other. It’s the ultimate test. To be the eventual winner means you have to meet and beat the very best at some stage of the competition. Usually, the easiest games come at the group stage and then it gets harder. This time, Spurs face the harder games in the group stage. That’s great news because once we pass through to the knockout rounds everything will get easier!

Looking at the teams in Group ‘H’ the key will be to win both games against Apoel and our other two ‘Home’ games’ – easier said than done, but not impossible. The away games against Madrid and Dortmund will be a tad difficult (!?) but football is ‘a funny old game’.

Personally, I love the draw. The atmosphere in front of a packed ‘Home’ stadium will be awesome. I only hope I can experience some of the ‘awesomeness’ through the TV screen.

We are used to seeing Luka and Gareth leaving the playing area with a satisfied smile on their faces. It will be strange, and somewhat sad on this occasion, to see them both wearing a look of complete dejection as they vacate the THFC premises. Bring it on!
