The Daily Telegraph journalist Matt Law is reporting that Manchester United striker Anthony Martial would prefer a move to us rather than Chelsea.

It is believed that the Frenchman is keen to work under Mauricio Pochettino.

Fans on Twitter were mostly positive about the development:

Verdict:

Another Telegraph journalist James Ducker reports that United would resist any offer from us for Martial. They are not keen to sell to another Premier League club.

He reports that if we do push for the France international’s inclusion in any deal for Toby Alderweireld, the Manchester club are likely to withdraw from negotiations and look at other targets.

My gut feeling on this one is that this could be a lengthy transfer saga involving both players. Daniel Levy’s notoriously tough negotiating stance will likely be in evidence once again, and although Poch is reportedly keen to get the club’s transfer business out of the way early this summer, I am not confident that will happen.

  • Not going to happen but there’s probably Bale, Sessegnon and Malcom that could happen and play similar position and style. We should be looking to get Sessegnon and Malcom – the new Alli from lower division and Hazard from France/Willian from Brazil based on potential impact. Would love us to bring back Bale, get these 2 and De Ligt – now that would be signing with serious intent.

  • “Big matches” tomorrow – if Fulham lose I reckon we get Sessegnon if they win we don’t. Again depending on how Bale does could decide his future and whether stays or goes – touch and go with him as lately been doing well in Spain and seems to be getting back to his best. Again if does not feature reckon we’ll get him or Utd will.

  • Hazard and Neymar to Madrid should put paid to Bale anyway just a question does he end up at Utd or with us. Either way can’t see Martial leaving, covers too many position’s (LW,AM,CF), same as Rashford. Very interesting to see what happens this summer.

  • Neymar and Hazard to Madrid should put paid to Bale there, then it’s a question of do Utd or Us get him. Martial like Rashford offers too much cover LW, AM, CF. Will be very interesting to see what happens this summer. We need to strengthen because it looks like City and Utd are going to do so and so will Liverpool so we need to aim for top 4 again and cannot sit around and rest on our laurel’s – Chelski won’t exactly sit back and neither will Arse so we need to keep moving to stay where we are – musical chair’s anyone?!!

  • Man U will not get Toby unless Martial comes to Tottenham,Man U state they will not sell to Premier rivals is hogwash the days when they could do that are finished they never played the lad anyway so let him play for somebody who will make him a better player like Pochettino not somebody who wants players who are already at the top of their game with a manager who likes to buy but not develop them.

  • After reading the multitude of players we are supposedly in for I realise that there really is no reliable news. I don’t want Toby going to ManU and I doubt they will sell us Martial so I think that rumour is a dud. Doubt we will go for anymore french “Carlos N’Kickaball” types. The Puig rumour, thank goodness has been put to rest. De Light, if a backup for Jan may have legs but not as a replacement for Toby (already have Sanchez/Foyth). Bale would be really nice but, really? We aren’t going to pay the wages and I don’t think RM are in any position to subsidize his wages. My hope is that we are really in for Sessegnon, and a playmaker to cover/replace Dembele. I think we have a lot of firepower up front and a lot of midfield strength, although I would swap Sissoko for the Colombian midfielder we were linked with a week ago. It will be at least a week before we see a new signing as DL is probably trying to sort out our lads now.
