The agent of Napoli midfielder Amadou Diawara has denied reports that the 20 year old could be joining our club in the summer.

Rumour mongers Calciomercato.com reported yesterday that the Guinean was being lined up as a long term replacement for Mousa Dembele.

However, speaking to Rai Sport in Italy (quotes via Football-Italia.net), Daniele Piraino refuted the claims, and also dismissed reports that the player has a release clause in his contract:

‘I don`t know who`s putting out such destabilising rumours at such a delicate moment in Napoli`s season. I don`t know who`d be interested in doing that. The release clause? It doesn`t exist, not for Italy nor for foreign countries. It hasn`t been looked at and there`s no negotiation with Tottenham, with English teams or any team in Europe. Diawara is very happy at Napoli, he has three years on his contract and he`s focused.’

The holding midfield player signed for the Partenopei from Bologna in 2016 for ?14.5million. It was sizeable fee for a teenager, but he had a good first season at the San Paolo. His second campaign has seen him make fewer starts so far, but he is still highly regarded in Italy.

Dembele is now 30, and has a contract that expires in 2019, but talks over a new deal have reportedly started. I have no doubt the club`s scouting department will have looked at long term replacements, but the Belgian`s form suggests he still has a fair few years yet to go at the top of his game.
