Tuesday evening’s action pitted Tottenham Hotspur against Chelsea in the EFL Cup semi-final first leg tie at Wembley Stadium.
With a comfortable FA Cup victory in our last game, preparation wasn’t great as we lost Lucas Moura to a knee injury in the win at Tranmere, but the aim for Spurs was to put in a strong showing and hopefully take advantage with silverware being a word on everyone’s lips in the campaign of 2018/19.
The visitors clearly had the better of the game across the 90 minutes when you look at the stats and overall chances on the day, but once again Spurs did more with less of the ball and made it count and the only statistic that truly matters is the one detailing Harry Kane’s 26th minute penalty as we took and then held onto, a 1-0 advantage.
The tie is far from over at 1-0, but the advantage is ours and we’d have taken that ahead of the opening whistle.
