If the transfer rumours are anything to go by, Tottenham Hotspur are expected to spend an absolute fortune this summer and improve their squad hugely.

The likes of Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso have been touted with big-money moves recently and The Mirror have claimed we will be prepared to smash our transfer record twice to get those deals across the line.

Considering that the current club-record stands at £42million for Davinson Sanchez (Guardian), it would not be hard to see that happen, although the chairman is not going to be forced to spend extravagantly on the duo, is he?

Unsurprisingly, the report states that Daniel Levy is still determined to stick to his guns and try and get the best deal he can as he will not be held to ransom by either Olympique de Lyonnais or Real Betis for their talented stars.

Whilst his tactics within the market would hugely benefit Spurs, many of the club’s supporters have seen it all before and the latest news has does not appear to have left many with confidence that he will get either of these deals across the line.

One fan mentioned on Twitter that it was ‘typical Levy’ to hold out for a ‘rock-bottom deal’ and ultimately miss out on them, whilst another felt it meant we would not be signing either this summer because of his lowball style of negotiations. Here are some of those reactions…

  • Same old, same old. Nothing will change. Enic are an investment company, the clue is in the word “investment.”

  • same old shit poch will be off at this rate .levy thinks hes clever penny pinching but everyones got wise to his crap and wont go near him so we will end up with jack shit, but just remember levy good stadium needs a good team to put in it……

  • Sadly Daniel is a penny pinching chairman. We hear all this big talk of, at the last, we were going to sign five players.

I bet we don’t buy any.

The most important thing we want is a couple of strikers. But who wants to warm the bench instead. And play second fiddle to Kane

  • I hope they don’t spend the money that’s been floating around. There’s plenty of 1st class talent in our ranks I don’t mind 30/40mil per player . DL to this point has run our club 100% giving young players their chance which the proper way the spurs way poch will get the players to perform this season again onwards and upwards

  • No pen ny pinching though when it comes to Levy’s salary. Looks increasingly that Eriksen will not be sold except at possibly a fire sale fee. We cannot seem to move Janssen,NoCluedo or any of the other spare parts which gives us even less to play with. A fifth of the window gone and no incoming talent worth reporting. Just more negative articles on who we cannot sign…..what will be this years excuse?????

  • Given Levy’s well documented notoriety as a penny pinching, and procrastinating chairman when it comes to signing new talent, it is little wonder Tottenham fans are sceptical and concerned about his ability to bring in much needed players of genuine quality and reputation. And the problem with this is Pochettino has already publicly clarified his position with the club going forward with regards to the club stating that a new level of ambition is required if Spurs want the success they crave for. If Levy fails to bring in players of genuine quality over the summer, and perhaps more importantly the ones Poch’ is actually asking for, then he risks seriously jeopardising the clubs ability to move forward in real footballing terms. And this may ultimately prove to be the tipping point in the relationship between chairman and manager. You have been warned Mr Levy, the ball lies squarely in your court!
