Will A Spurs Player Hold Up The World Cup?

It seems to me that we need a thread to discuss the World Cup …. particularly as so many of our players are to be involved. And that’s the point of this article. Which countries do VS posters think will progress through the group stages and be in the running to be crowned World Champions?

The Spurs players who will take their part on this world stage are:

England: Captain Harry Kane, Kieran Trippier, Danny Rose, Eric Dier and Dele Alli.
France: Captain Hugo LLoris.
Belgium: Jan Vertonghen,Toby Alderweireld and Mousa Dembele.
Colombia: Davinson Sanchez.
Denmark: Christian Eriksen.
South Korea: Son Heung-min.

That’s a total of twelve players or a full team and one substitute! Spurs have more players representing England than any other PL club (which could be good if we win or bad if we fail to at least reach the quarter-finals).

It’s entirely possible that one, or more, of our talented Spurs players could get their hands on the world’s supreme football trophy. Yes, it is, really! I suppose the players most likely to do this are the ones representing England and Belgium. But, first, they will have to progress through the group stage.

Here’s my prediction for the Group Stage:

Group A: Russia, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Uruguay.
Progressing: Russia and Uruguay?

Group B: Portugal, Spain, Morocco, Iran.
Progressing: Spain and Portugal?

Group C: France, Australia, Peru, Denmark.
Progressing: Australia and Australia. Sorry about the typo… I meant France and Denmark!

Group D: Argentina, Iceland, Croatia, Nigeria.
Progressing: Argentina and Croatia?

Group E: Brazil, Switzerland, Costa Rica, Serbia.
Progressing: Brazil and Switzerland?

Group F: Germany, Mexico, Sweden, South Korea.
Progressing: Germany, South Korea?

Group G: Belgium, Panama, Tunisia, England.
Progressing: Belgium and England?

Group H: Poland, Senegal, Colombia, Japan.
Progressing: Poland and Japan?

Group I: China, New Zealand, Italy, Wales.
Progressing: Impossible to predict so I’ll leave that up to you guys?!

I don’t think I’d be alone if I said that I can’t wait for the Spurs v Spurs game! Sorry, another bloody typo. I meant the England v Belgium game!! I’m sure we’ll all be glued to the set for that one, just as we will for all the Australian group games!!

Anyway, here’s a WC thread to start with … and maybe to keep going? It will make your summer go faster (unlucky you) and my winter go faster (lucky me). Gotta love football.

  • True – time to get Eriksen signed up on a long term deal. Then carry on with Toby, Mousa, etc and add 2 or 3 top quality signings and start challenging for the Prem, etc hopefully as of next season in our brand spanking new stadium!

  • After this weekends sport, that is the English Rugby and one day test Cricket team, if there anything to go by England Professionals wise, the WC football team will be in deep mire, nicer word there. COYS

  • Hey Up, HT … I only support Tottenham, and England. I had a giggle at Australia getting knocked out …. a pleasure in seeing England beat Australia 5-0 in the cricket. 9-1 on agg after the ashes in January lol. In relation to the WC… I have predicted, 12/16 correct so far could be 13 to qualify … Germany and S.Korea was he 2 who didn’t make it surprised me. I chose s.korea because of SON. … I hope you guys are all enjoying the warm weather back in the UK make the most of it .. will be blizzards next week according to the useless red top rags
