A Hard Man to Find

TYPE LINK TEXT HEREIt’s all well and good admiring the subtle skills and intricate interplay of the new all improved Tottenham Hotspur, but it might all be to no avail unless we can add some steel and bite to the midfield in the form of an established defensive midfielder.

Someone who is able to offer some protection to our renowned soft underbelly by putting his body in where it hurts in the line of fire, by breaking up opposing attacks, and by playing the short, straightforward, simple ball quickly and directly to the playmakers and strikers.

Such a person plays a very unglamorous but nonetheless important role as the main linkman between defence and attack and if we are to seriously challenge at the very top end of the table we need to acquire an accomplished player in that mould.

The current candidates unfortunately don’t cut the mustard for varying reasons. King is ideal but is required(when available) to lead and marshall our backline. O’Hara will I feel prove too inexperienced at this moment in time in his reading of the game. Zokora is just not up to the job full stop and Huddlestone does not show enough aggression, nor use his obvious considerable strength to it’s optimum and is a tad slow in my honest opinion.

Ramos will no doubt be aware of our shortcomings in this area but concrete links to such a player have not been evident.

Do you know of a player who could fulfil this role effortlessly for our club? Could we possibly snatch Barry from the Scousers’ grip? Or failing that will there prove to be a dearth of such competent individuals?

Will Ramos have to slowly come to terms with the reality that a hard man can indeed be truly hard to find?
