Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt says he isn’t aware of interest from other clubs despite reports that he could be leaving the Dutch side.
The Sun reported at the weekend that we were lining up a £45million offer for the centre-back, but when asked by Fox Sports about the rumour (translated by TalkSport), he said:
“I do not know anything about it. And my agent does not know anything about it. Today I played a match with Ajax and next week we have another one.”
The Dutch international has been tipped as a potential replacement for Toby Alderweireld. The 18-year-old is highly sought after with the likes of Barcelona also reportedly interested in him.
He only made his senior debut midway through last season but has quickly become a key player for Ajax at the heart of their defence.
This campaign the teenager has made 38 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals and providing three assists.
If de Ligt were to move to us, he would once again link up with Davinson Sanchez who was his centre-back partner during Ajax’s run to the Europa League final last season.
