£1billion Reasons Why Spurs Will Spend Next Summer – “The Timing Is Perfect”

|

With last Sunday seeing the first test event at the new White Hart Lane Stadium, the news surrounding Tottenham Hotspur this week has been heavily stadium linked.

With plenty of former players and pundits speaking very highly about our new home ground, the thoughts of Talksport host Darren Gough caught my attention as I was reading around.

It’s rare but I guess finding myself optimistically nodding in agreement with something on Talksport is bound to happen on occasions.

With our total lack of spending across the 2018/19 campaign when it came to new players, it’s been an often trodden subject amongst fans with various criticisms and conspiracies surrounding why we didn’t strengthen, but Gough has looked on it differently – albeit with a sensationalist twang.

“I think the timing about it is absolutely perfect, what Tottenham are doing. Because they didn’t want to win ‘nowt’ before they got in there! Because what will happen now, is I think they will not do what Arsenal did. I think they will go out – they’ve not made a signing now for 18 months – they will go out there and take four new signings with them into the new stadium. You watch, they’ve done it on purpose! There’s a reason they’ve saved their money and not gone and done anything. They’ve sorted out their own player’s contracts; made sure they look after the ones they want. And they are going to go out there and surprise everyone and sign four players for next season. You watch!”

Now, of course, only the summer will answer whether there was a real purpose behind our lack of spending and whether or not it was designed to give us a future splurge and whilst I know most will naturally dismiss the claim, I wouldn’t be surprised to see at least four come through the door.

It won’t be four players at £50million a piece and I doubt it’ll be a change of direction under Mauricio Pochettino given his preferred way of working, but four players in the £15-20million bracket to freshen the group and provide additional improvement and options, I don’t see as being beyond us.
