Reports this morning suggest the Blackburn are demanding an unrealistic £17 Million for Want away winger David Bentley.

Now I felt 15m was strong money and possibly 3m over his true value, but if the figure of 17m is true it is time to look at alternatives or stick with what we already have.

I like Bentley and think he would be a great addition to the squad, both in terms of ability and also his mentality. but every player has his price and I’m sorry but this price definitely isn’t right…

I believe the Right midfield role isn’t a main priority, so Tottenham don’t have to be held to ransom, the player has publicly stated his wish to leave and reportedly indicated a desire to join us over other clubs, but it really wouldn’t surprise me if Bentley wasn’t this seasons 11.59 pm deadline day signing as Daniel Levy plays a game of brinkmanship with Blackburn.

Is this a deal where Spurs put in a firm offer and wait and wait and wait…

This deal could easily become like the Barry to Liverpool deal, where the selling club have had a gun held to their temple’s by both the player and buyer, though there seems no way back for Gareth Barry at Villa David Bentley hasn’t yet demanded a move in such strong terms to force Blackburn into a corner, yet…..

Personally I still feel he will become a Tottenham player within the next fortnight and at a more realistic fee than the one quoted and this is one final act of defiance on the part of Blackburn.

Paul Ince knows the score, he did exactly the same when leaving West Ham, so he must privately have sympathy with Bentley, this coupled with the facts he will want to get his hands on instant funds for his own rebuilding, he isn’t going to want deals taking place late in the window for his own sake.

My money is on a Cash only deal, with a large percentage up front for 12m plus add ons taking it to a potential 15m…
