£131m Rated Spanish International Quashes Talk Of Tottenham Transfer

Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba has dismissed claims that he will be leaving the Camp Nou this summer.

Madrid publication AS reported yesterday that we were monitoring the Spanish international’s situation at Barca.

Alba’s agent had hinted last month that the full-back didn’t feel appreciated by the Catalan club after not being offered a new deal. When asked about the report, the Spaniard expressed his desire to remain at his current club:

“No, no, I’m very good at Barca. If it were up to me, I would stay at Barcelona all my life. But it does not depend on me but on what the club wants. It also depends on my performance, which this season has been very good, but I do not see myself outside of Barcelona.”

The 29-year-old has two years left on his contract at Barcelona and remains an integral part of the La Liga Champions’ first-team squad. He played 48 times in all competitions last season, scoring three goals and providing 12 assists.

AS also reported that the player has a release clause of just €60m, but that figure is wide of the mark. When he last signed a new contract back in 2015, Barca released a statement which revealed his buyout fee as being €150m (£131m); a fee that will likely ward off any interested parties.
